November Updates

November 8, 2012 at | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Here are a few updates of what is going on during the month of November:

READING:

Please make sure your child is reading every night for at least 20 minutes.  Their SRC test will be due on Nov. 16 and their book project will be due Nov. 30th.

MATH:

I encourage all parents to attend our math family night on Tuesday, November 13 from 6:00-7:15.  You will be able to better understand how your child is being taught in class and how you can help/assist them at home.  The first part of the evening will be spent listening to a presenter speaking about the basis behind the program that we are using in class.  This will be great information!  The second part will be spent in the classroom demonstrating a few of the games that we play in class to help practice concepts that we learn!  Each family will be able to keep the game so they can play it with their child at home!

OTHER:

On November 29th, each child will be painting a picture of their North Carolina Lighthouse that they have been researching.  The cost for this is $3.00.  Please send the money in with your child ASAP.

Thank you for your support at home!

Beginning of October Events!

October 1, 2012 at | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Here are some updates of things we will be learning about during the first few weeks of October!

READING: Our reading groups have begun a mini novel unit.  They are very excited about reading the same book as their peers and being able to discuss what they read with each other.  We will also be discussing ways to figure out what those “hard words” are and using information that we already knew and connect it with new things we learn!  All students need to take an SRC test on a book in their reading level by October 12th.  They have written their book they are reading in their agendas.

MATH: We are beginning a new unit in math this month on multiplication and division.  Please look in the “Math Family Letter” section for further information to help your child out.  Please make sure your child is practicing their multiplication facts (0-12) at home.

SCIENCE: For the next two weeks will be talking about nutrition and how important it is for our bodies.  We have just begun our “Race Across North Carolina” where our class will be competing against the other 4th grade classes to see who can run/walk from the west coast of NC to the east coast of NC the fastest by running/walking laps up on the track and combining our milage together to see our progress!

OTHER: Please make sure your child is reading for AT LEAST 20 minutes each night and turning in homework on time.
