Dr. Seuss’s Wacky Wednesday Field Day 2012

WACKY WEDNESDAY

We will have our annual field day on Wednesday, May 23rd.  The k-2nd grades will be in the morning starting at 9:00 and the 3rd-5th grades will be starting at 12:30.  If you are interested in donating something for field day, we need Dixie cups for water stations, squirt bottles, and icees. If you are willing to donate any of these items, they can be dropped off in the gym. Thank you, thank you!!

All students must wear tennis shoes or water shoes on Tuesday, May 23rd to participate in the field day.  If your child does not have on tennis shoes he/she will not be allowed to play.  Hopefully, it will be hot on May 23rd so make sure your child wears lightweight clothing over their bathing suit. Your child will be getting wet during field day, so it is highly recommended that your child bring a change of clothing, a towel and a plastic bag to put wet clothing in.  Don’t forget the sunscreen!

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to make field day successful! If any parent would like to help with a station (H2O or an active game station) we could use your help.  If you can help, please come by to see me or give me a call at Meadowbrook. Sign up early so that you can reserve the most fun game!! If you plan on helping I will need you to be here by 8:30 the morning of field day so you can familiarize yourself with the game and rules.

Get Ready for a Wacky Day!!

Thank you in advance for supporting physical activity in the children here at Meadowbrook!

Meadowbrook’s 3rd Annual Cubs on the Run 5k and Fun Run & Health Fair Presented by MedWest

March 24th is fast approaching, so don’t forget to sign up for our Cubs on the Run 5k Race and Fun Run! Our 5k race was designed to help bring light to the growing problem of childhood obesity. Children and adults have learned to love running since we launched our running club three years ago.  Please come out and show your support of running and healthy living for this event by participating or cheering on the runners!

Our Cubs on the Run 5k  race is open to runners and walkers of all ages. The course is moderately hilly track on Kim’s Cove Rd and Highway 110 in Canton, NC. There are water stations along the course. Trophies will be awarded for top male and female overall finishers as well as age group medals for male and female top three finishers. The first 150 entries are guaranteed a race t-shirt!

Our Cub Fun Run/Walk is designed for those who aren’t quite ready to tackle a 5k. The less than a mile course is on Meadowbrook Drive and Meadowbrook Elementary property.

A health and wellness expo will be located in the gym from 7:30 until 11:00. This is a free event to help increase awareness of all forms of health care and healthy living opportunities that are available in our area.

Pre-Race packets can be picked up on Friday, March 23rd 3:00-5:00.  Race day packet pick up and same day registration begins Saturday, March 24th at 7:30.   The Cub Fun Run will begin at 9:00. The 5k will begin at 9:30 and the awards ceremony will start immediately following the 5k.

Holiday Ideas

Amazingly there are only a  few more days left until our next break and our students will be out for almost three whole weeks! I want to encourage  you and your family to remain active over the break! Your children and I have discussed how they need to be moderately to vigorously active for at least one hour each and everyday! I challenge you and your child to strive for this goal over break. Below is a link to the SPARK website that has some great ideas to help you stay active during the holidays!

http://www.sparkpe.org/blog/ways-to-be-active-during-the-holidays/

Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year!

No Running Club

There will be no running club on Thursday, December 8th due to our Surfin’ Santa Christmas Program. We will pick back up on Thursday, January 5th. Starting Tuesday, January 10th we will begin our twice a week traning for our 3rd annual 5k. Students will meet on both Tuesdays and Thursdays unless notified.
