5th Graders Participate in Outdoor Education

Fifth graders from Meadowbrook and Bethel Elementary schools participate in a day of outdoor education at Camp Daniel Boone. Students had the opportunity to explore the outdoors to find ways that they can be physical active lifelong while integrating science! IMG_1789 IMG_1802 IMG_1805 IMG_1815 IMG_1826 IMG_1832 IMG_1838 IMG_1843 IMG_1851 IMG_1877 IMG_1881 IMG_1885

Fall Fitness Testing

Students will begin their fall fitness testing today. We are establishing a baseline of their fitness level for the beginning of the year. My goal for them is to improve in all areas of their fitness abilities. Please click on the tab to the right for the Haywood County Fitness standards.

4th Grade Bicycle Rodeo

What a great 2 days we had with the bicycle rodeo! Students learned the rules of the road, how to ride a bicycle safely and we even had some students learn how to ride a bike for the first time! AMAZING! Thank you so much to our volunteers Mrs. Trantham, Mr. Olsen, Mrs. Nolte,  Emmerson Gibson’s grandfather, we could not have done it without you! I encourage you to get out and go ride a bike, not only is it good exercise but it is lots of FUN!

Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year

  Let’s Get Pumped About 2016!!

I am Beth Swanger, your child’s physical education teacher. I have taught at Meadowbrook for the last 14 years. I love being here!

Students at Meadowbrook will have physical education once a week. Please make note of the day in which your child has PE, this information will come from your child’s classroom teacher.

On the days that your child has PE class , he/she MUST wear tennis shoes in order to participate. If students do not have tennis shoes on he/she will be required to sit out and 2 points will  be deducted from their participation grade.

Children are expected to participate in PE classes. If your child has been sick and you would like for him/her to sit out, a note from home will excuse them for one day. A doctor’s note is needed if your child is sick and unable to participate for three days or longer.

We are excited to have an intern from Western Carolina University this semester. Nicole Blackwell will be here until she graduates in December!

It is recommended that school aged students receive 1 hour of physical activity each and everyday! This year I only get to see your child once a week, so let’s get them moving at home! Walks around the park, riding bikes, swimming, jumping rope, or even playing a tag game at home would be a great way to get moving!

This school year I will be at Bethel Elementary School on Mondays, Meadowbrook Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. I will finish the week on Friday at Clyde. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any concerns or questions, bswanger@haywood.k12.nc.us , (828)646-3445. Follow me on twitter for Physical Education updates @bswangerpe.

Fitness Testing Starts February 22nd

Just a quick reminder that we will begin fitness testing on Monday, February 22nd. Students will be tested on their shuttle run, mile run, pacer, pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups and sit and reach. If you have questions about the test check out the tab to the right for all the standards!

Be prepared!

Walking Wednesdays!

Don’t forget we are still having our Walking Wednesdays, every Wednesday at 7:30. We have been walking the halls of the school until weather improves and we can get back outside! Come join us!
