The Official Word on Tuscola HS Wrestling

Week #2 Begins

Practice #7 will be tomorrow – Monday, Nov. 9.

Hopefully, the JV football players who plan to wrestle will be at practice on Monday. I am looking forward to getting close to a full team out on the mat.


SCRIMMAGE @ Enka HS – Wednesday, Nov. 11

  • Nov. 11 is a holiday (Veterans Day), and there is no school.
  • Wrestlers will need to be at Tuscola by 3:00 p.m.
  • The bus will leave Tuscola at approximately 3:30 p.m. We will accommodate anyone taking Drivers’ Ed. that day (scheduled to end at 3:30 p.m.).
  • Teams Participating:
    • Enka, Owen, Madison, Brevard, Tuscola, AC Reynolds, Pisgah, N. Buncombe, Asheville School, Cherokee, Asheville, Smoky Mtn., Science Hill (TN)
  • Wrestling Begins at 5:00 p.m.
  • Three Rounds:
    • 5:00-6:10 p.m.
    • 6:15-7:25 p.m.
    • 7:30-8:30 p.m.
  • EVERYONE will be able to wrestle (no team scores kept). The number of matches an individual gets to wrestle will depend on the number of wrestlers available at that weight with the same experience level. We will try to get at least 2 matches for everyone, but there are no guarantees.
  • Experienced wrestlers will be paired with experienced wrestlers, and inexperienced wrestlers will be paired with inexperienced wrestlers.
  • NO WEIGH-INS – Wrestlers will be matched up as closely as possible by weight, and also by experience level.

Only Tuscola wrestlers who have practiced at least Monday & Tuesday (Nov. 9 & 10) will be eligible to participate in the scrimmage.

First Day of Practice – MONDAY, NOV. 2

Mandatory Requirements that must be met BEFORE YOU CAN PRACTICE:

  1. Have a completed PHYSICAL EXAM on file with Jenn.
  2. Have your SIGNED CONCUSSION TRAINING FORM on file with Jenn.

Additional Reminders:

  1. Report to the auxiliary gym IMMEDIATELY AFTER SCHOOL on Monday.
  2. Everyone must help get mats rolled out, taped, and cleaned before dressing.
  3. Be sure to WEIGH BEFORE PRACTICE, and record your weight on the chart.
  4. Have RUNNING SHOES for outdoor running, and clothes appropriate for the weather.
  5. Have WRESTLING SHOES, shorts, and T-shirt for practice on the mat.
  6. Practice will end at 6:10 p.m.
  7. EVERYONE must help roll mats back up.
  8. Be sure to WEIGH AFTER PRACTICE, and record your weight.

I don’t expect everyone to have read every word in the THS WRESTLING HANDBOOK before practice on Monday, but it would be a good idea to at least skim through it – especially the Team Rules & Basic Procedures. I will go through some of those items with you on Monday, but it will help if you have already checked them out, and thought about them at least a little bit.
