Newsletter 4/17

Here is our Newsletter for the week following Spring Break! These are coming home to you in the front of your child’s yellow folder on purple paper each Monday. Because of Spring Break, I will be putting this particular newsletter in on Friday of this week 4/07 to keep you updated for when we come back.

Have a safe and relaxing break 🙂

Newsletter 3/27

Happy Monday!!

I hope everyone had a restful weekend.

This week we are talking about SPRING! We are learning about poems and focusing on acrostic poems. Students are bringing home a special poem project to work on this week with an adult. Please look in your child’s yellow folder for it! They are due Friday 3/31. Because of this extra homework, there will be no math homework this week!

Some upcoming dates:

Friday 3/31- Leadership Celebration! Wear your read leader shirts or just red.

Monday 4/3- Student Led Conference Night @ 6:00pm. Come to learn all about your student’s goals and how they are meeting them!

Wednesday 4/5- Spring Picture Day! Report cards will be coming home this day as well.

Friday 4/7- 12:30 Dismissal

Monday 4/10-4/15- SPRING BREAK!!! 🙂

This week in reading we are revisiting retelling the story. We will be doing end of year reading testing beginning May 1st. The HARDEST part of this test is the written response. Your child brings home this homework every week! Please help them complete it for practice at home. There is a focus on fiction with this test. Encourage your child to read and respond to fiction books for extra practice. You can discuss these books with questions like:

  • Who is telling the story? How do you know?
  • How did the character(s) feel when ____ happened?
  • What was the problem in the story? How was it solved?
  • Why did the character do that?
  • What happened in the story? Beginning, middle, and end.

They are making SO MUCH progress and it’s all thanks to the hard work you’re doing with them at home! Keep it up!!

Lunch/Specials:

Monday- Salisbury Steak or Chicken Nuggets, Library

Tuesday- Baked Ziti or Chicken Filet, No Specials

Wednesday- Sweet-N-Sour Chicken or Cheeseburger, No Specials

Thursday- Mac & Cheese with Grilled Franks or Sliced Ham, PE

Friday- Pepperoni Pizza or Chicken Nuggets, Guidance

Thank you so much for all you do in our classroom and at home as we get closer to spring break and the end of the year!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Carraba’s Night money is due 3/20! If you haven’t bought your tickets yet please do! This is a great fundraiser and you get a delicious meals for only $10.

Monday April 3rd is student led conference night @6pm. Students have been working hard on their goals and are super excited to share their growth with you!! We hope to see you there 🙂

Wednesday, April 5th is Spring Picture day! More information should be coming your way!

As we get closer and closer to the end of year reading testing we will be focusing each week on a new written comprehension question stem. Written response is the hardest part of this testing!! Students should be restating the question (not rewriting it, but turning it into a statement to start their answer), using details from the story, and writing in complete legible sentences. End of year is entirely in fiction stories, so encourage your child to pick those books and questions to get enough practice. You can practice this at home with a journal or the paper I provide each week. This week we are working on character’s feelings. The question we are working on this week is “How does ____(the character)____ feel? How do they feel after ____(event, change)? Use details from the story in your answer.” Encourage your child to use this question for their homework this week! Here is an example of the question we worked on today when we read Sheila Rae the Brave by Kevin Henkes:

Lunch/Specials

Monday- Breakfast for Lunch, Library

Tuesday- Chili Mac & Cheese or Chicken Fillet, No Specials
