A letter to my wonderful math students and their parents/guardians!

Wow, can you believe that you are now a student at Canton Middle School? I am looking forward to a fun filled 2017 – 2018 school year. It will be an exciting time! I will be stressing the 2 R`s that I feel are so very important as life skills – RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY.

I want to take this opportunity to stress a couple of areas that are extremely important to your positive academic development. PLEASE, make sure that you are in the classroom by 7:55 A.M. When you arrive late you disrupt the entire class schedule. When you are out sick, you must return with a written note or it will be unexcused. Last but certainly not least, please refrain from checking out during academic core classes unless absolutely necessary. When this needs to be done, please bring notification in writing. Haywood County has an attendance accountability policy with your best interest as the top priority. Remember – students learn best when they are in class.

Homework is practice/review/application of objectives and lessons taught in class. Homework can also be a preview of preparing a framework for learning new information. I expect homework to be completed to the best of your ability and turned in on time. **Homework and class notes are posted every night on my “Warren’s  Wonderful World of Mathematics”  moodle.”

It is very important that you master your multiplication tables. 6th grade math involves a lot of computation using multiplication/division with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. If you have not mastered your multiplication facts, I would like to suggest that you purchase or make a set of Multiplication Flash Cards.

The next few weeks will be hectic and maybe even frustrating at times, as we all are adjusting to a new year. I understand this and hope to make the transition to Canton Middle School as smooth as possible.

In closing for my parents/guardians I would like to leave you with a quote worth remembering:

We as parents, guardians, and teachers shape and mold a child’s life …. for better or worse. ~Guy Dodd~
