First Progress Report

September 19th, 2010 by rmetcalf

The progress report for the midway point of the first nine weeks goes out this week. Remember, this is just to give parents an idea of how their child is doing. In my class, there will be an opportunity to retake the Literary Terms Test if your child did not pass it. So do not worry if a grade is low;┬áthe retest is scheduled after grades are due. Also, if your child did not read two books and successfully take the SRC tests for the books, his/her grade will be low. This project counts for 40% of your child’s grade. The overall goal is for your child to read 4 books by the end of the nine- week period.

The year has already gotten off to a great start! I know the rest of the year will be just as fantastic. For the first two days of school, we focused on getting to know one another, as well as getting familiar with classroom procedures. This week, we will be looking at literary terms.

I will hand out a study sheet with twenty literary terms that we will be using throughout the year. Some of the terms your child will already be familiar with. We will write out the definitions, make flash cards to use to study for the test, and identify the terms in picture books that I will read to the class.

I will post the goals and objectives for this unit, as well as the literary terms sheet in the middle of the week.
