MONDAY

  • Teacher workday

TUESDAY

  • Teacher workday

WEDNESDAY

  • Regular science – Today, students in 1st core had the opportunity to play “catch up” to get work done that they may have missed or may not have completed in their science notebook. Students in 4th core played the counting atoms game. Homework tonight for both classes is to do the EVEN PROBLEMS ONLY on the counting atoms worksheet that was handed out in class.
  • Advanced science – Students finished working through the balancing equations activity that we began on Friday. Scores from last week’s test on the periodic table will be posted on PowerSchool today and we will discuss the test in class tomorrow.

THURSDAY

  • Regular science – Today we reviewed counting atoms and then students took a short quiz on counting atoms. There is no homework tonight.
  • Advanced science – Students were given a workday today to catch up parts of their notebook that may be incomplete and to update things like the table of contents and the index. I also returned tests to students today. Any student who scored less than 70% has been given an assignment to complete to bring their grade up to 70%. This must be turned in by Monday. If it is not turned in, the grade in PowerSchool will remain. Tonight’s homework is to watch the video on indicators of a chemical reaction. The link can be found on the right side of the page under Science Videos.

FRIDAY

  • Regular science
  • Advanced science

Week of 10/10/16

MONDAY

  • Regular science – Today we worked on our review of the periodic table and atomic structure by practicing finding protons, neutrons, and electrons, and drawing Bohr models and Lewis Dot structures.
  • Advanced science – Today we worked on the ionic bonding puzzle that was begun on Friday.  Students should try to make as many bonds as possible from the puzzle pieces they have.

TUESDAY

  • Regular science – Today we finished working on our periodic table review and students then played a review game for the periodic table.
  • Advanced science – Today we finished the ionic bonding puzzle and students played a review game for the periodic table.

WEDNESDAY

  • Regular science – Test on atomic structure and the periodic table
  • Advanced science – Test on atomic structure and the periodic table. Please watch the video for Counting Atoms tonight and take notes on page 53 of your science notebook. The link can be found on the right side of the page under science videos.

THURSDAY

  • Regular science
  • Advanced science – Students took a short quiz today on counting atoms and then we worked through a game of counting atoms where students had to interact with their classmates in order to complete a chart of chemical formulas. Tonight, students need to watch the video on the Law of Conservation of Matter and take notes on page 55. This can be accessed through the link to science videos on the right side of the page.

FRIDAY

  • Regular science – Today we continued working on counting atoms by reviewing the notes that we completed yesterday and then playing a game in which the students had to interact with their classmates in order to complete a chart full of chemical formulas.
  • Advanced science – Students took a short quiz today on the video they watched last night and then we jumped right into chemical equations. Students first looked at several chemical equations and had to determine if they were balanced or not. This activity can be found here – Counting Atoms and Identifying Balanced Equations – and goes on page 56 in their science notebook. We then began working on how to balance an equation that is not already balanced. We will continue working on this when we return to school next week.
