The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens today!
Graduating Senior Families,
If you attended Haywood County’s annual Financial Aid Night via Google Meet last evening, I hope that you feel more informed about next steps and available resources. It was not recorded due to privacy, but our guest speaker and regional CFNC representative Devon McCarthy-James emailed her slides. The file is too large to upload here, so contact me for a copy.
The FAFSA opens today! This application begins the process for need-based financial aid and is required to apply for some scholarships. The four documents and links below were shared in a webinar this morning. Also, HCC’s Financial Aid Office is willing to help: 627.4756, hccaid@haywood.edu.
Class of 2021 Family Night
This Jumpstart Guide was shared with graduating seniors via Remind on August 26th and discussed in our first Google Meet on September 4th. My hope is that this one reference (timeline, activities and embedded links) will simplify this part of the college planning process. However, it is an overview, so please contact me with additional questions.
College Planning Info for the Class of 2021
Below are a total of 10 slides to guide your college planning this summer. Links are in purple. There will be a Family Night after school resumes to provide greater detail, as well as more COVID-19 updates.
PSAT Score Reports and SAT Prep
If you did not attend the Lunch & Learn on January 10th, see Dr. Allen for your PSAT score report and test book.

#2 – Students created a College Foundation of NC account at cfnc.org. Graduating seniors will return here to apply for NC residency and possibly complete admission applications also. This website provides many resources. One of my favorites is under “Plan” -> “For College” -> “Explore Programs and Majors”. Enter a major of interest, and click on “Schools Offering This Program” for a list of NC colleges with that program.
